Established in 1999 by Late Mr. Joseph Dsouza, the Joseph D'souza Chess Academy, has been driving international representation in chess for over the last 20 years. With over 31 years of Chess coaching experience, within the country, as well as overseas, Joseph D'Souza Chess training academy has taught thousands of chess players over the years including a few Grandmasters. As embodied by Mr. D'souza, JD Chess Academy's real strength is grassroots and mid-level coaching, now enabled by the hired experienced training staff. The academy caters to hundreds of chess students every year, while also serving to produce many new arbiters, officials and volunteers. A soft-spoken person with impeccable manners and leadership qualities, Mr. D'Souza, tried to promote the game of chess and his players without compromising on ethics. The chess organisation was established to encourage and develop more players who could represent the game within the country as well as at a global level.
The Chess training academy offers goal-oriented programs designed by the founder and former principal Mr. Joseph D'souza, winner of Maharashtra state's Shiv Chhatrapati award, and the first full-time Chess coach in the city of Pune. Beginning at a nascent stage of 4.5 years, the students are categorised based on mental development and skills. Joseph D'souza Chess Organisation provides group as well as personal and advanced training sessions, each of which is facilitated by highly experienced, certified and FIDE-rated coaches. The exact process of coaching at this chess training centre is based on the much-acclaimed Russian Chess School, where beginners are grilled for about 3 to 6 months on various training, based on a student's ability, following which the students are promoted to beginner level 2. Consistent good performance in level 2 guarantees promotion to the intermediate level, after which a player typically receives a FIDE rating within 30 days of advanced training.
